...THE DENTAL TORTURE SCENE..
...The Marathon Man movie was one I recall seeing when it first came out in 1076. A riveting story that includes several unforgettable scenes. Of relevance of course would be the 'Is It Safe/' torture scene with Laurence Olivier and Dustin Hoffman. In it 'Babe' played by Hoffman is being tortured by 'Christian Zelle played by Laurence Olivier who continually asks the question 'Is it safe?' as he is torturing Hoffman by drilling/removing teeth without anesthetics. That brought to mind Dr Dwyers dental chart that he took of the Somerton Man's teeth. It showed that the man had 18 missing teeth. I wonder to this day just how those teeth were lost. according to his statement at the inquest, Dr.Dwyer found no sign of any gum disorder or disease
I wondered where the idea of torturing someone by removing their teeth could have come from?
I can recommend the movie, it is a brilliant story surrounding a wanted War criminal and his efforts to retrieve a cache of stolen diamonds and evade identification and capture for his crimes.
